How to Increase Breast Milk Production

5 December 2011 No Responses

For those women that make the decision to breast feed, this is a wonderful experience that no man will ever be able to relate to.  This is a great way to bond with your new baby, lose weight and help support a health immune system for you baby.  But, there are times when it can be difficult to produce a sufficient amount of milk.  That means that you are going to need to make sure that you are doing all that you can in order to produce more breast milk.  The good thing is that there are few different ways you can do this.

First of all, you will want to make sure that you are letting your baby feed off of both breasts when you are feeding.  You will often find that you can do this when your baby is sleepy and they stop sucking a lot.  However, it is going to stimulate the breasts to produce more milk.  You will find that you are going to feel full in both breasts more frequently when you are using this technique.

Next, it is always a great idea to try to nurse your child a few extra times during the day in the very beginning.  That means that if your baby typically eats eight times a day, you are going to want to try to feed the baby nine or ten times.  While you may not be thrilled about this it is going to make your body think that it needs to make more breast milk.  You will find that the more you do this, the faster you will be producing milk.

Most individuals are going to tell you that breast feeding is not always going to be simple.  Because of that you are going to want to work with a lactation consultant to help you identify how to breast feed properly.  You want to make sure that the baby is latching on correctly.  You are also going to want to make sure that you know how to proceed if you are not able to get the baby to latch on.  There are going to be times when you will want to know exactly what you can do to stimulate the baby so that he or she will want to eat from your breast.
