Can Doctors tell if you’re going to have a midget or dwarf child?

25 October 2009 2 Responses

A Parent asks, Is it seen before birth or is it one of those after birth things. And are they smaller than normal babies? Just curious. If my baby was like that I’d still love him the same. Just saying that because I KNOW there are the rude jerks out there who will just assume I won’t love my child over something like that. I tried to have my child knowing that anything could happen.
I’m 35 weeks pregnant.

There are different types of dwarfism.

Some are easier to detect than others.

If your OB/GYN discovered something that looked concerning he would let you know.

It is normal to have fears of birth deffects, I too had fears.

But unless there is a family history of dwarfism or you yourself are a dwarf then I would not worry about it and just enjoy your pregnancy.

They would more than likely be able to tell through a sonogram because MOST forms of dwarfism include a larger head and shorter limbs. Although in primordial dwarfism, the fetus grows NEARLY like any other fetus, only it’s VERY tiny. Most women who are pregnant with a primordial dwarf barely have a belly and even at full term, the fetus looks like it’s in the second trimester.
