Q&A: What are your thoughts on fathers day surcharge?

9 September 2010 3 Responses

Question by suzie-que: I heard on the radio earlier that a family went to a Restaurant & was charged 17.5% fathers day surcharge,I gather this Restaurant is open any other Sunday,so the employer has staff rostered for sundays & as per wage pays correctly.Do you think this is taking advantage of special days & customers?

I don’t understand? Surcharge, or gratuity? Holidays are when servers make the most money, so even though it’s weird, if it’s a big party 17% is decent gratuity…

Never heard of this before. In Australia there is no obligation to tip as waiters are on a decent wage. That 17.5% would no way have gone to the staff.
