Can the amniocentesis fail to detect a tween pregnancy?

A Parent asks, I had an amnio and we got the dna result for just one girl and during the ultrasound we saw only one baby. Could it be possible that now that I am in my 8th month of pregnancy at the next ultrasound (I haven’t had one since the amnio), they find twins?

prob. not, what makes you think you have twins anyways?
yesh this is possible ultra sounds arent perfect, and if they are identical twins they have identical dna….

is there a reason you think you have twins?
Not unless the other babies tiny an hiding id say u was having one baby as an amnio is pretty good as there there for ages makin sure the needle doesnt hit the baby
i wouldnt think they would find twins as they usually check for twins on tour first scan
If it was twins they would have been able to tell and you would be able to hear 2+ heartbeats. I would say if they havent figured out you are having twins by now, you probably aren’t.
Could happen.
Were you twice as sick and twice as big now.It could be 2 babies.
I guess it could be possible, but it would be a very rare and freaky event. Even as early as 5 weeks they can detect twin pregnancies, and if you’ve had more than one, I’d say your chance of you carrying and undetected 2nd pregnancy would be impossible, unless you had the most inept u/s technician in the world.
Also, you would be measuring much larger around your belly if you had a twin pregnancy. Doctors should be checking the distance between your pubis and the top of your uterus at each appointment. If this measurement is outside of the normal range, it can indicate a problem, like too much fluid in the sac, so the doctors keep a close eye on it. Women who are carrying twins have larger measurements. If you were carrying twins, your doctor should have noticed many, many weeks ago that you are measuring big, and he/she would have performed an additional u/s to determine the cause of the discrepency. So it sounds like you’ve got a singleton in there. Good luck with delivery and I hope your daughter is happy and healthy!
