What are fun things I can do with preteen boys?

16 November 2009 18 Responses

A Parent asks, Single mom of boys, ages 9,11, and 13. Money is limited. Summer is here and they are BORED. I am out of my mind trying to think of inexpensive things to do. All they want to do is play video games. Help!

Take them to the beach or the pool. You can also take them to the movies. Although it can be expensive, it’s a good way to stay cool.

Movies, Roller Skating, maybe carnivals. Usually boys those ages like video games, but they might spend less and less time each year, or not

I have brothers who are 9&11 so I may be able to help.
    Here’s some ideas:
    1. Take ‘em to the library. They might say it’s ‘lame’ but if you let them look around for a while, they might find some good stuff(you might too)
    2. Take them fishing. Standard old father-and-son activity. They’ll at least like splashing around(if the water’s clean) I know I did.
    3. Biking. Great way to pass time. If they don’t know how, teach them. Rollerblading’s fun too.
    4. YMCA, assuming you can afford membership of course. Some have kid fitness rooms, and there’s always the pool.

Hope some of that helps, sorry I ran on…

    I am doing this today

Today I was in the grocery store, and bought some inexpensive fireworks, they are discounted because it is after the holiday, so I am going to do a few with my 13 year old brother who i am babysitting (not that a 13 y/o really needs a babysitter but whatever)

Of course this only works if they are respectful to the risks involved, if they are on the wild side, use caution…

Other ideas, bike rides, fishing, swimming in a local lake or such

Wel you can try taking them to a park. maybe get them a foot ball. something to play with while you are there. maybe have a picnic.Amusement parks that aren’t alot of money. they’ll have fun riding some rides. Or taking them go cart riding. Try something thats in their intrests something that they enjoy, that doesn’t cost alot of money. maybe look in the phonebook.

    Other Suggestions:
    Movies
    family night
    board games
    throwing a football
    Hopes this helps!

Find out where the nearest Boys and Girls Club is and take them there 3 times a week. They will spend their day with other preteens doing activities that are fun for them and supervised. The best thing is, it is basically FREE.
