Teenage pregnancy is not a new phenomenon. It is more frequent these days, but in the old days, the girl would often be sent off to have the baby somewhere else for fear of embarrassing her family.

I can’t answer for all teenagers. Some are plan stupid, others are naive, others are looking for something( someone) to love them. So there is no real way to pinpoint whose fault it is. I definitely think parents should take a more active role in their childs life, but teens are teens and are going to do what they want to do in the end. That school that’s supplying birth control is on to something. Junior high may be a bit young, but the concept is a good one.

They are getting pregnant because they are having unprotected sex… reproduction is not age discriminatory.. works like that for all of us.

if you think about it the more years that go by the younger they get as to when the start having sex. therefore they are not going to tell their parents or get on any birth control becuz they dont want their parents finding out.and as far as not using condoms, they are young and are not FULLY informed of all the dangers they run while having unprotected sex and they dont know how easy it is to get pregnant.and some guys dont want to use condoms becuz they think it wouldnt feel the same i guess.my cousin was 14 when she got pregnant but thats becuz they really didnt know what they were doing and didnt know the risk involved.

I don’t think that its necessarily something to be blamed on one person (other than the girl and the boy of course). Unwed, young people have been getting pregnant for AGES. Its just that, in this day and age, its more acceptable.

“It happens. People make mistakes.” That’s not how people looked at it back in the 50′s. It still happened, you just didn’t hear about it. It was concealed. People openly talk about it now.

Back “in the day”, there was rarely an option of safe sex. It was simply no sex until marriage. That’s how society use to look at it. Now society says, “well, they’re gonna do it anyway, so lets give them condoms and pills.”

That’s just my opinion of course.

look at their role models!! i’m not only saying parents even though they have a huge impact, but celebreties! I mean EVERYONE is hollywood seems to be pregnant! I think the main reason is the girls are not on birth control, and no one likes wearing condoms! and why does it have to be someones fault?? things happen!! we really can’t do anything about “all the other kids” we need to focus on our own, educate them, if we think they’re having sex PUT THEM ON BIRTH CONTROL! i have a cousin, who has a 13 year old daughter, who has had sex “ONCE” her mother refuses to put her on birth control “because it will give her permission to have sex” NO you still enforce your rules, but u put your daughter on b/c because if not the girls gonna run any chance she gets to be with her boyfriend, i don’t think birth control is a bad thing, parents need to enforce their rule, and also give the kids a little of what they want when it’s deserved, but parents that stick their head in the sand and pretend it’s not happening are the reason we have so many pregnant teens!! My mother, was 2 months shy of her 15th birthday when she gave birth to me, my childhood best friend got pregnant when we were 15, it’s just everywhere! and we can’t stop it! we just need to find ways to protect ours!! but for all u parents out there… the more you sufffocate your children, the more they will rebel against you, kids want limits, and are forever testing them. I try to be not only a mother but a friend to my boys, so when they need tot alk about something they will come to me, and not someone else….. if and when i have a lil girl…i will practice what i preach, as far as blame goes, pointing fingers at people does not solve things….education *i scared the hell outta my lil cousins who are 13 & 15* by telling them ALLLLL about being a mom, from stinky diapers, to staying up all night cleaning up puke and diareah…… you just have to show them what it’s really like, all they see is this cute lil baby and everyone buys you things for it, and you get to dress it all cute…..i wish that was it!!!!

Teens think they are invinsible. That nothing can harm them or change their life thats why they don’t take precautions when having sex, or they speed when driving and other such things. See I was 18 when I found out I was pregnant which was odd because my fiance and I used protection religiously. My family found out and made my life a living hell and basically told me if I didn’t have an abortion or give it up for adoption that they would not support my decision to keep it. My fiance and I wanted to take responsibilities for our actions and were ready to do whatever it took but my family made me cry hysterically everyday and night to the point where I just wanted to disappear. I was so stressed out so I went through with an abortion which I may say was the worst decision I’ve ever made. I had a wonderful guy who was willing to stick by me through thick and thin and help me through everything but I did what my family wanted. See even though some teens dont use protection, I did, and i had a friend that used both condoms and the pill and she still got pregnant. Birth control is not 100% effective. Anyways my point is, is that I chose to have sex with my boyfriend(now fiance) then because I would accept any “accidents” that might happen and take responsibility for them. (and I would have if I wasn’t so pressured by my family) I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason and that god does not give you anything that you can’t handle. I may only be 2 years older now but I regret what I did and know in my heart that I would have been able to handle it. I as out of high school and starting community college. But I see so many careless teens these days as young as 14 getting pregnant! I never even thought about sex at that age. I think teens need to be more educated on everything involving sex and especially girls should be taught about ovulation learn more about their bodies and every teen needs to be more careful. I swear that in your teen years that for some reason you are more fertile or something because now that I am 20 and to be married we started trying for our first child about 4 months ago and nothing yet…I just pray for these young teens that they see that what they are doing is wrong and they need to control themselves. I don’t see as much of a problem if a girl who has graduated high school becomming pregnant as long as they are in a comitted relationship but these little 13 and 14 year olds…they need the most guidance ever. Parents need to be more involved in their kids lives and choices because at that age parents can still make decisions for them or at least help make decisions.
