Watching a TV show doesn’t make you pregnant. It doesn’t make you want to get pregnant. These shows portray the consequences of sex and how getting pregnant as a teenager can affect your life, which is a good thing. If anything, they’re encouraging teens NOT to get pregnant.

The ’16 and pregnant’ i assume people look at and think ‘silly invalid girls, they will ruin their lives, their families lives and their baby’s lives’ for most of them anyway.
However im sure someone sits there at night thinking ‘wow i want that lifestyle’

    Depends of the person (:

    Advantages: It’s entertaining- that’s it.

Disadvantages: A lot of younger girls (12,13, 14 yr olds) might think these shows realistically depict teen pregnancy/parenting.
(I’ve heard a 14 year old girl say that “16 and pregnant” made her want a baby).

I think that if kids are going to be watching these shows it should be explained that it’s not like that in the real world.

I’m 16 and I’m harboring a uterine parasite, and The Secret Life make me sick to my pregnant stomach, it’s such a glamorous dramatization, there’s no advantages to watching such a disgusting show. It makes it seem like everything is okay and fine and dandy and sex sex sex, none of us have any problems let’s all just have a bunch of kids, everything works out. The other show is more realistic, but those dolts are so stupid and don’t know what’s going on at all, and I still kinda feel like they’re promoting teen pregnancy.

I had a baby as a teenager and I honestly can’t remember it being as dramatic as what it is on The Secret Life.
If I was a young girl and watching that show I wouldnt want to be in Grace’s situation.
Well except for the fact she still got herself a boyfriend WHILE pregnant… that was just weird and unrealistic.
I’ve never heard of 16 and Pregnant though.

16 and Pregnant was OBVIOUSLY written by Christian pro-lifers. Its full of bigoted and dated notions. It doesn’t do anything for the modern young woman.

I don’t know about the other.

Really, the very best movie about teen pregnancy would have the mother make a balanced decision between abortion, adoption and keeping the baby, with none of the options being seen as any less honorable than the others.

She would realise the terrible beauracracy of the Agency Adoption system and choose to raise her child herself, as a proud mother, or put her into the Foster system, where money ISN’T exchanged for a baby. Seriously- selling a baby? What rot!

If she chooses abortion, she won’t be ridden with guilt for the rest of her life. She would say “I feel a bit sad, a bit empty. I also feel relieved.”
