When did you start taking your newborn/infant out in public?

A Parent asks, When did you actually start taking him/her out like grocery shopping, friends, stores etc. Besides taking them out for the basic doctors appointment when did you start doing ‘regular’ going out activities with your newborn/infant?

After a few days and I could walk! I just wanted to show my lil girl off to the world
Within a few days, no need to shelter baby they need fresh air just like us…
~When our son was born we stopped at Walmart on the way home to get some essentials that I didn’t have at home. We took him in, but kept people at a distance.
~With our daughter I believe it was the day after or maybe 2 days after we went home. I had a C section with her and wasn’t ready to go anywhere…
First time was the 6 week check up. Baby needs that time for immune system to develop
Both of my babies were born in winter, and both of their pediatricians said the same thing: 6 weeks for winter babies, because it’s flu season & if babies catch the flu they often DIE from it.
The baby books I have say if your baby is born in summer, there’s no time frame. You can take them out right away, just being careful of strangers grabbing at them (or anyone that’s sick).
Your instincts as a mom are generally right, though. But since you’re questioning it, it probably means you’re ready to go out & just a little apprehensive. Go for it!
2 1/2-3 months. i bring them outside before that but just not anywhere with alot of people and germs until they are about 3 months. i think that by then they will be accustomed to germs from my other children and it wont be such a big deal. but when we are out until about 5 or 6 months i keep the canopy on the car seat down so that no one’s germs can get onto them. but if we’re walking and the sun wont be in their eyes ill put the canopy down its all about protecting your little one and im just a bit more of a germaphobe then most people.
i had my daughter august 27 2008 and first took her out in public in the 1st wk of september so she was a few days old. no one touched her but she was out.
My babies don’t leave the house until 6 weeks old. Then they are still limited on where I will take them until 3 months.
lol…when my daughter was 4 days old my husband’s family had a family reunion…so…of course…we took her camping…it wasn’t any fun because i couldn’t do much and i had a newborn so we basically stayed in the cabin most the time
I walked home from the hospital after giving birth, got groceries on the way. I too also had my little munchkin in the stroller with me. Oh and got hungry so I stopped off at the diner next to the store and got some grub.
All five of my girls were out and about when they were a few days old.
LOL to the above answer. I stopped at Walmart too on the way home from the hospital with my oldest.
And I took my youngest to the elementary school where I work when she was 6 days old *gasp* I know, wasn’t that horrible…all those kiddie germs. NO, she and I had been exposed to those germs all through my pregnancy, a child of her age still had my antibodies in her, and I was breastfeeding.
How can a baby stay in the house for 6 weeks or more? Do the mommies not go anywhere?
I would have gone insane if I stayed in the house day after day for that long.
A few days old, they need fresh air just like us to.
the day we got out of the hospital, we went to walmart and the mall. i seriously needed new cloths, everything i had from before i was preggers wasnt going to fit but i was thin, just had biger thighs and my jeans didnt fit. i got 4 pairs of jeans and 6 tops. he slept thew most of it, hes been an angel his whole life. hes 9 weeks old now. just the happiest baby, he doesnt like the feel of grass yet so we are working on that so he can sit in the grass and play with his 4 month old cuz.
a few days. Make sure you keep the baby covered at crowded places so it wont pick up any virus.
Also be aware of strangers that want to come up and look at your baby dont let them get in there face or touch them,
and be aware of the swine flu cuz its getting worse.
A few days after I brought him home from the hospital, we went to visit my mom, his mom, friends, etc. But he came home at 6 weeks old, still 3 weeks before his original due date. He just went to a restaurant for the first time last night and he is now 11 weeks old. That is just because I have super convenient babysitters, though. I probably would have taken him out sooner if I didn’t.
******* COngratulations! I wanna see pics of your boys?******
We went to wal mart a few times when he was first born. We started going out on regular errands around 2 weeks…. eek! I took him out early but i had things i had to do and am a single parent. I felt comfortably taking him out at 2 months!
About a month i wanted everyone to see her
