Will every baby eventually go into labour by themselves or will some babies HAVE to get induced?

A Parent asks, I am due to be induced on Tuesday night and will be 41 weeks. Some of my friends have advised that I should just leave it because the baby will eventually come on her own!

The baby will come on it’s own but the doctor’s like to induce so the baby doesn’t get too big and for their convenience. If you are feeling good and there is no stress on the baby you could wait. You have to give your permission to induce. It’s up to you.
No pregnancy in history ever went on forever! Some babies (especially back in the olden days) were know to go up to 43 weeks but that’s pretty unlikely nowadays. If you’re happy being pregnant and there’s no reason why the baby needs to come out, sure wait it out!
Some babies do have to be induced if the amount of time that hey are overdue is to much and might cause some medical problems. other than that the baby will come out on its own.
Babies do not go into labor and they are not induced, you are!
Typically doctors will not let you go 10-14 days past your due date. So unless your baby decides to come soon it sounds like you will have to be induced. Have you talked to your doctor about this and what options you have? If not, do so. This way you can be prepared.
Good luck and congratulations on your baby!
Up to you. ACOG does not recommend induction until 42 weeks, so your doctor should explain why he is deviating from that.
After 42 weeks, the rate of problems rises significantly, which is why they make that the cuttoff to induce. The biggest problem is a failing placenta. While there are 10 month mamas and they should be allowed more time, it really is a safety issue after 42 weeks.
What some women do is go in to be induced. If it don’t work, they go home and try another day (just don’t let them break your water or you are on the clock after that).
regardless you will go into labor, however there are medical risks… for starters…. the healthiness of the placenta. past 41 weeks, the placenta can start to deteriorate.
also of course the size of the baby. the longer you are pregnant, the larger the baby… the larger the baby, the greater the risk of needing a c-section.
many women experince a tremendous amount of stress with being overdue. sometimes it is anxiety, sometimes it is more physical… regardless if you are under more stress it is good for baby.
all these things need to be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not to induce. i would ask your doctor questions about these things and see what she says. i would also trust the advice of your doctor… she knows your medical history… she has an idea of how large your baby is, and she may be aware of any other possible medical risks.
many women develope pre-eclampsyia. at my 39th week i started to show sypmtopms. i did not yet have it, and my doctor did not want to scare me, so she suggested i induce. she told me later that i was likely to develope it.
so it’s possible that your doctor knows something you don’t.
well it gets dangerous if the child gets to big and you can’t push them out. Some doctors do induce for their benfit but since you are 41 weeks this is not one of those cases. In m opinion do it
Listen to your doctors – sometimes the body doesn’t do what its supposed to do, so you need the help of some medicine to push things in the right direction. 41 weeks is a reasonable time to induce – by 42 weeks the amniotic fluid actually is reducing and it becomes dangerous to NOT give birth. Trust the doctors that you have chosen to protect you and your child during this time. They are very familiar with your situation, they are professionals and do this for a living, and their job is to make sure your baby arrives safely!
Your friends don’t know the full story of your physical condition and baby’s condition…your doctor does. Yes most women will go into labor at some point on their own without any assistance. However some women don’t. From personal experience my water broke with my son and I did not go into labor at all and had to be induced. I also had a “missed abortion” about 3 years after that. The baby had died yet my body did not do the right thing and expel it. Even after 3 weeks there was no sign that I had lost the baby.
On the medical side of this there are several things you need to consider. Baby’s size, fetal stress levels, placental ability, maternal stress/condition. All of these play a big part in the decision as well. Also there are times where the baby just isn’t able to decend properly into the pelvis to get labor going. Usually if there is something “wrong” labor just won’t begin.
Even though being induced is far harder then a “natural” labor it is worth it to get the pregnancy over with and have your little angel in your arms. Focus on that more then people who insist on acting like they know more about your medical condition then your doctor does.
