What Is The Difference In Newborn Sizes And Size 0-3 Months?

A Parent asks, Is it worth it to buy newborn sizes of onesies and things like that or shoud I just buy 0-3 months?
Will the 0-3 months be too big for a newborn?

Newborn things are for babies who are 8 lbs and under. 0-3 are for babies who are 8-12 lbs. My son wore Newborn things till he was about a month old. He was born at 7lbs 7 oz and is now 3 months old and has just grown out of 0-3 months. I would buy a few things that are Newborn just in cause your baby is smaller. Most of the things that we had were 0-3 months and they were huge on him when he was just born.

This is in the UK….
The newborn stuff I bought was generally for up to 7.5lbs. Up to one month was for up to 10lbs. And 0-3 months was (I think) for up to 14.5lbs.
Luke outgrew all of these pretty fast, he’s 4 months and in 6-9 months clothing.
If I were you I’d buy mainly 0-3 months, if it’s a big big it doesn’t really matter, sleeves can be rolled up, and babies grow so fast! I bought far too much newborn/up to one month stuff.

Yes i think it is worth it, but not too many at first til u know what size ur baby will be at birth. For some newborns yea 0 to 3 months would be too big but for others they would be fine.
For Carters clothes – Newborn is for 5 to 8 pounds and up to 21.5 inches and 0 to 3 months is for 8 to 12.5 pounds and 21.5 to 24 inches, so there is a big difference between those sizes.
For most other clothes sizes (or at least the ones I have) newborn is for 6 to 9 pounds and 17 to 20 in and 0 to 3 months is for 9 to 13 pounds and 20 to 24 in. So again there is a big difference between the sizes.
My son was pretty tiny at birth at 6 pounds and 18 inches and he was in size newborn size clothes for the first 6 weeks, so he needed a lot more than some babies, but then my one nephew was a lil over 10 pounds and 22 inches and was in 0 to 3 months right away and for the first 6 weeks.
So it depends on the baby whether u’ll need a lot of size newborn or not, so get a few for that size and then if ur baby is on the smaller side than get more in newborn.
Hope this helps and good luck,

I think newborn sizes are typically up to 8.5 lbs. and then 0-3 is from 8.5 to 12 lbs.
My baby girl was 8 lbs. at birth and she wore newborn for her first three weeks. I was going to skip the newborn stuff all together but I am so thankful that I didn’t. I tried a 0-3 month sleeper on her when we brought her home and she swam in it. Now at 5.5 weeks, she’s comfortably into her size 0-3 months clothing.
*Edit: My first baby was 6lbs., 10oz. at birth and he wore preemie size clothing for the first three weeks or so. My second baby weight 9lbs., 3oz. at birth and he went straight into 0-3 months. It really depends on the size of your baby.

I waisted my money on newborn stuff. My baby was so big and didnt fit any newborn clothes.. But its not much of a difference from 0-3 months. I would keep a few newborn things just in case your baby is smaller. But you can just keep 0-3 months. Even if its a little big it wont hurt the baby. Its better to have it a little loose then too tight.

It depends on what size baby you have. I would buy a couple, and then when you have the baby, you’ll know if you need more. My mom kept telling me to not buy newborns, because neither me or my two brothers fit in to them. So I didn’t, and then had a 6lb 4 oz baby! Newborns where way big, and she was in them for 6 weeks, so it’s hard to tell!

They could be. Depending on how big your baby is at birth. My daughter was able to wear newborn clothes for about 2 months, she is now just barely outgrown them and in 0-3 month clothes. She is 3 1/2 months old, and I figure she will be in 0-3 for another month at least.

my son was 8lbs 4oz when he was born and 0-3 was too big on him. even though they only lasted about 3 weeks, the newborn fit him so much better. I would have a handful…they outgrow everything so fast, you may as well have some things that fit well if only for pictures…

Get a couple of newborn outfits and a couple 0-3 month. Sizes always vary between brands anyway. Just don’t go overboard you can always buy more when the baby arrives and you know the size.

I use 0-3 months clothing for my 3 week old baby and it fits in fine. As long as your baby weighs more than 6 pounds at birth.
I rather use 0-3 months because you can use them for 3 months. Newborn clothes will only last about 1 month.

I would get maybe one pack of newborn size onesies. The rest should be 0-3 month. They grow so fast you don’t want to have a whole bunch of onesies that will be too small a week or two after he’s born.

i would buy maybe 3 or 4 new born size onesies but they grow fast so i would get more 0-3 months stuff. good luck. i would get a couple new born out firsts but not to many.

I would get newborn if baby is smaller. If baby is born w/weight of 8lbs or higher I would go w/0-3 mos. Also different manufacturers are sized differently anyway. Always allow some rm. for growth as they grow fast!

Newborn goes up to 8 pounds I think and 0-3 goes up to 11 or so. Best to get a few newborn outfits but mostly aim at the 0-3. My daughter was 7 lbs when she came home and 0-3 was too big for her.

The 0-3 months could end up being closer on the 3 month end so best to have newborn stuff too!
