A Parent asks, I’m in New South Wales in Australia and my kids have 4 terms in the year with holidays in between. They go to primary School years kindergarden – year 6. then high school, years 7 – 12
They start the school year on:
Term 1. 30th January – 5th April. then holidays
Term 2. 24th April – 29th June. then holidays
Term 3 17th July – 28th September. then holidays
Term 4. 15th October – 21 December. then holidays
What is it like in different countries?
School starts 9.20am and finishes 3.20pm

What time do they have to be at school?
We have to be at school at 8:00 AM and we get off at 2:20PM.
For middle school
Here it is school from the end of August until the beginning of June with holiday breaks throughout the school year.
In Florida though and some other states they have school all year with 2 wks each season ( I think that is how it is done) for a break.
Each county has their own way setup. Here it is K-5 at one school, 6-8 at another then 9-12 at the highschool. I did attend an elementry school though that went up to 8th grade then switched over to highschool in 9th grade. So it varies even here in the US.
Way over here in the Philippines, we basically have Pre-school (Nursery, Kindergarten, Prep), Grade School (1-7), and High School (1-4).
The schoolyear generally runs from June until March the following year. Depending on the School, it may be a semestral (2 grading periods), Trimestral (3 grading periods) or a Quarterly (4 grading periods) system.
There is a summer vacation April and May (some schools may end early april and others may start late May). There is also a Christmas break lasting about 2 weeks.
Of course, there is university or college afterwards lasting 4 years which most people from the upper levels of society take and graduate schools
I live in Vancouver, BC in Canada and we have 3 terms. Elementary school is kindergarten – grade 7 and high school is grade 8 – 12.
The school year is:
Term 1. The first Tuesday after Labor Day (which is the first Monday of September) in September – the middle of December. Then holidays.
Term 2. First week in January – the middle of March. Then holidays.
Term 3. Near the end of March – the middle of June. Then July and August are summer holidays.
The school year is September – June. The winter holidays in December are 2 weeks long and Spring Break in March is 1 week.
Wow. The Australia school times are short! At least, about an hour shorter than here. Usually, elementary schools start at about 9AM – 3PM, and Fridays are half days or maybe until 1 something PM. My high school is from 8:30AM – 3:10PM. Most high schools start @ 8:30AM and end by the first quarter of 3PM.
Here in Switzerland most cantons follow this schedule:
Kindergarden: one year is mandatory – two years is possible in some cantons
Primary: grades 1-6
Secondary (there are 3 different kinds of secondary school): grades 7-9
9th grade is followed by university, apprenticeships, trade or business school or study abroad.
End August to mid October (2 week fall break)
End October to mid December (2 week Xmas break)
January to mid February (2 week sport break)
March to mid April (2 week spring break not including Easter weekend)
May to mid July (followed by 6 weeks summer break)
They aren’t very big on preschool here – anything like that is private.
Hours can vary, usually 8:00 – 15:15 with a 2 hour break over lunch (the kids are home over lunch). Great question!

I’m in Pakistan and while exact dates for the school year vary from one institution to another, generally they follow this pattern:
New school year starts in September
September to December – Autumn/winter session.
End December and 1st week of Jan – Winter holidays
Jan-March – Spring session
April-June- Summer session
June-August -Summer break
School timings vary according to the age of the child. Generally, preschool is from 8:30am to 12:30/ 1:00pm
For older classes, timings start even earlier – from 7/7:30am to 1:00/1:30pm.
August 22nd-June 18th.
