What are your experiences (bad or good) from Elementary School or Summer camp?

A Parent asks, I only have one child, so I have nothing to compare to. She is 6 1/2 years old and already seems to have had her share of mean and unacceptable issues with other kids. Example:
1) Bit at school by a 3rd grader. (she was in Kindergarten)
2) Hit by a same age bully more than once
3) Had a boy walk by her at camp last week and grab her in the crotch! Remember she is only 6!
Seriously? I am at a loss, is this the norm these days to be around other kids that have serious issues?
I don’t hear of these events when they happen to other kids and parents, so I’m trying to gage if this kind of stuff happens to other people.

My son had some serious issues with a bully in school who cost us 2 trips to the Doctor’s this year- once for an injured eye, once for a bite that broke skin. The bully seems to have a terrible home life, her parents are frequently in the paper for drugs etc, so I think she has no ‘norm’ to set herself by.
I love our elementary school and even more so after reading your question. They do an assembly every year on bullying. The kids get pins saying “bully free zone”. Any child witnessing a bully is to report them immediately. They go to great lengths to drill the point home. Children are rewarded for loyalty, among other virtues. I have not heard of any problems at our school. This is a public school and these programs can be implemented in any school, they make a difference. I’m sorry your child has had such terrible experiences.
