Nevaeh and any boy name for a girl and Kennedy, Reagan, Brooklyn, and any African American ghetto name with a ‘ in it.
You don’t have to give your child a common name, just a normal name. If for some reason you think “unique” names are cool, legally change your own name and still give your child a normal name.
Just because they sell 26 sided dice doesn’t mean their intended use is to make up baby names.
Names that aren’t the traditional spelling. They will always be pronounced and spelled wrong.
Boy names on girls. They masculine and horrid on girls.
Trendy and popular names. Most of them are horrible, like the -aidan names.
Names that aren’t actual names. Has no roots, no origin, and no meaning. Like Neveah.
Anything faddish, or a celebrity’s child’s name; they age very quickly and become quickly associated with that celebrity and a particular few years. Sometimes it works out okay, but too frequently you can look at a name and know instantly around how old that child is going to be and what sort of background they might have.
Anything made up, or spelled in a ‘creative’ or ‘unique’ way. It makes it difficult for the child to spell when they’re learning, it’s frustrating for both a child and a teacher when teachers and classmates keep on mis-pronouncing a name, and parents end up getting annoyed because nobody can say or spell the name they made up.
Names which will command teasing. Certainly you can find something to rhyme with any name if you try hard enough, but with some names the connotation is just too automatic.
gerchrude, dagmire, idk any of those names that sound like poop
I teach kindergarten, and I wouldn’t use anything that ends in -adey or -aiden (Bradey, Gradey, Aiden, Braiden). They are so standard, so are now boring.
I would also make sure to spell it correctly as it really confuses kids when they realize their name doesn’t conform to standard English conventions.
Right now, there are lots of Leahs, Ethans, Jennas, and Jacks. We have 5 Jacks in one grade level.
Check the Social Security top 1000 list and stay out of the top 30. Also, avoid TV show names, such as Addison, Isobel, and Charlotte.
“Old names” are fun — Gwynth, Mark, Matt. You don’t see those anymore.

Well alot of people in those professions used to pronounce my daughters name like Maria and its Mariah (as in the singer Mariah Carey)..
So go with something thats more traditional or that isnt so strangely misspelled from the common spelling..
I’ve seen alot of people suggesting Isobell but pronouncing
IS A BELL…when they are intending it to sound like
IS O BELL…
Another would be Leigh ..Some pronounce it Lee and others pronounce it Leah.. So if you are wanting your childs name to be pronounced correctly the first time, make it more of a common way of spelling or traditional name..
don’t give your child a name that is very popular when your hcild is born
It is horrible to have a room full of Lilys, Grace,Rose. etc
when my oldest son a name which I thought was unique. But, at his birthday party there were five boys there with the same names. Go ifgure
Dont go crazy with a different spelling. It can cause troubles all their life.
sometimes kids live up to their name….sorry to all those who have these names or used these names.
Mitchell…… MitcHELL! Ive not met a good one yet they are naughty
Seth( reminds me of DEATH)
And any boys that end in son , JAckson , harrison, tarrison, the list goes on. When you have to many it drives u crazy!
And unisex names……it confuses people and kids get teased. So Shannon, stacey, alex ,jamie, the list is endless.
But at the end anyone can change their name.
Do not name a child Richard – all the kids will call him Dick!
Name is based on several factors:
Ethnic background
Religion
Family
Ancestors
traditional name
Name of God/goddesses
I think i would not prefer to name my children which do not fall in accordance to above points.
Don’t go for “trendy” but strange names for example Apple, Smiley (yep real name), Wrigley, Moonunit… A roomful of Lily’s and Grace are much easier. Think of your child at 10, 20, 50, 80. Does the name travel well?
Be choosey when giving celebrity names and movie / TV / book character names. You might love Michael Jackson or Paris Hilton but others may not and they are then stigmatised. It also doesn’t give them the opportnity to be themselves, they’ll alwaysbe the kid with a famous name.
Go easy on the descriptor names where they’re not widely accepted; Chastity, River, Leaf, Storm…
Don’t try and be “smart”, try pronouncing your kids name and check their initials. Don’t call your William (Bill) Board, Richard (Dick) Head, Afelia Dick, Drew Peacock (Droopy Cock) and Declan Ian Knowles (DIK).
Go easy on misspelling the name. For example Steven or Stephen are perfectly acceptable, but Styfvan is a pain.
Go for a full name, not the nickname, Do you like Elly / Ellie? Choose Elizabeth, Isabelle, Penelope, Janelle etc and then shorten it. It also gives options for nicknames.
Get a naming book, or go to a decent name website. Going for a unique name is great. Choose something that is maybe a little bit different for example Elizabeth could become Elspeth or Bethany or Lisette
