A Parent asks,
he’s been grunting and straining alot. being real fussy. I can’t remember how much he told me to give him.
My pediatrician suggested that I give my infant pedialyte, he has been fussy, grunting and straining. I can’t remember if it is 1 or 2 oz. The dr office is closed.

Is she sick? With a flu or cold.
Cus my LO had the flu not too long ago. (got it from a plane ride) And I had to use the pedilyte, but I was told try 2 oz. every 1-2 hrs, then add a lil more each time. for about 8 hrs. until she can hold everything down. I couldnt feed her her formula. And they wanted me to use the whole bottle.
*** So is it for Constipation? Pedilyte isnt for that..its for dehydration for when they are sick and not getting enough fluids, not for constipation, I would call the advice nurse, most Pedi’s offices have that option, tell them what your baby is doing and ask what they think you should do .
for what reason? I don’t understand why a pediatrician would recommend pedialyte for a 2 week old. You should call your doctor and ask.
Then if he suggested it then you should ask him how much because you can give too much to your baby and that won’t be good.
There must be a good reason for it but he should of told you how much too. Until you are sure do not give it to him. i would just give him a bottle of water until then. My doctor never prescribed pedilite till after she was 6mnths and even then I was told to water it down because water was better for them.
While fluids are important when a child is vomiting, experts usually recommend that you give small amounts of fluids at a time, and then give frequently. For example, you might give your baby 1 or 2 teaspoons of Pedialyte, every 5 or 10 minutes instead of several ounces at once. Vomiting babies can usually tolerate small amounts at a time, while they will almost always vomit if you give them more than a few ounces a time.
Try with one for now and if you notice she’s feeling a bit better move it up to two. But as soon as you can call the pediatrician.
