How does your toddler react to your new baby? Jealous or loving?

A Parent asks, I have a new baby and my 2yo does some really cute and also really horrible things to her new little sister. At first she tried to out-cry the baby- everytime the baby cried she would try to cry louder. Now she wants to kiss her all the time but if she is tired she will sometimes try to scratch the baby or poke her in the eye. Has anyone had similar experiences?

I don’t have a new baby, but my friend came the other day with her 5 week old and my 17 mo. old twins were mad as could be. They would cry and scream whenever I held the baby and were trying to get me to hold them instead. They even tried throwing things at the poor little guy. So no, its not just your child, children go through that stage, espeically when they are used to being the baby, they want all of the attention that they were once getting.
My mom says when my little sister was born, I used to slap her around, pinch her, and even bite her when she was a couple days old.
She is trying to figure this baby out, let her but not in a way that causes the baby harm. She is trying to figure out how she feels about this baby, and if she wants to hate it or love it, either way she will learn to love it. give it time, keep her included with the baby and she will start being nicer.
my son was the same he would be really mean to his sister then turn around and be really nice to her. i think it was because he was a little Jealous•
