it is great that you are starting your child so young! i am planning on starting my child as soon as i have a pool ready ( i have taught in the past and am a certified lifeguard and my brother teaches lessons). my child will be nine months on 6/1 so we will be around the same time. in the past i have observed that children do object to water temp and splashing…but, i think that if you introduce everything in a non-threatening way you should be fine…temp of water could be the biggest offender, so be ware if it is not warm. best of luck!

Well…honestly, typing this makes me laugh. We started swimming lessons for my Daughter at 6 months, she’d always loved the bath and had been ‘swimming’ in the bath for a while. We got there, got in the pool and its safe to say that my Daughter turned into a screaming, hysterical wreck and to this day (she is nearly one) she cries whenever I put her swimming costume on her, lol I know I shouldn’t laugh but honestly, it was like a comedy act. She hated it but I honestly believe she hated the atmosphere (lots of screaming and loud babies) rather than the actual swimming because at home, in the bath, she even puts her head under the water with her eyes open to get toys from the bottom of the bath.

I definitely know more babies that have loved it rather than hated it but just be prepared that it usually takes babies out of their comfort zones, so she might not take to it instantly.

Good luck with your little water baby :)

It is more of a bonding thing. You sing songs, you do little activities like follow the leader. After a few lessons you will gradually put baby’s head under the water. Your baby will not learn to swim, but babies usually love the water and it is lots of fun. I have done it with my oldest two and will with my baby when the weather gets a bit warmer.
