How Many Diapers Will An Infant Go Through Before Potty Trained?

15 October 2009 12 Responses

A Parent asks, My daughter is expecting a baby girl in March, considering she’s going to be a single mommy I’m trying to help by buying diapers, I’d like to supply her with at least a six month supply. I’ve already bought 2 packs of the tiny infant diapers, and I mean the BIG packs, I think that will be enough until the next stage, so far I have 6 packs of the next size. Do any of you have a better idea of how many diapers it will take the average baby to six months?? Thanks a lot!!

I’d estimate based on an average of 8 diaper changes a day.
    8x30x6=1440 diapers in 6 months
Do be careful with the sizes, though- babies grow on their own growth curves. My guys were big and grew fast, so we never used the newborn size diapers at all.

I have a three month old and it really depends on the baby and how often they are changed but my baby went through about 10 packs of the NB size and has gone through at least 80 size ones in the passed couple of weeks. Good luck I would recomend maybe a gift card instead of just buying diapers. And tell her congrads.

well a package of diapers usually i buy the 50 pack- lasts about 2 weeks give or take a few days.
mine was in size 1 until about 2 months-
then onto size 2 until 4 months
now shes 5 months and in size 3.
Just to give you an idea of how it worked for me.
    Also WIPES WIPES WIPES GALORE!

TONS. you generally won’t have you child potty trained before 18 months (that’s VERY VERY EARLY…usually between 2 and 3 years), and you go through a LOT of diapers. more so in the first few months, my son is 9 months old and we HAVE to have gone through at least 1500 diapers, if not more.
2 packs of newborn diapers is probably too many…my son was only in them for less than a week before switching to size one. if you go to toys r us they have BOXES of diapers, i’d say that approx two boxes of each size (one box size 1, 2 size 2, 1 size 2-3, 2 size 3) after newborn would last for the first 6 months

2 packs of infant (newborn) diapers is probably too much. I would exchange one of those for a pack of 1′s or 2′s. My six pound, eleven ounce daughter wore the newborn diapers for about 2 weeks. My eight pound, 13 1/2 ounce son wore them for three days, and they were worthless for us. My son is now 7 weeks old, and is in a size 2. He’s a big baby. Do you know at all how big your grandchild will be? That might help you.
Figure 10 diapers a day for newborn, 8 or so for size one, 6-8 of size 2. Figure size ones for a month or two, and size two for a few months. That’s as good of a guess as you could get, you’ll have to adjust for her baby.
That’s so great that you’re buying your daughter diapers. I know I loved when my mom did that for us. If you can afford it, you could get her some wipes, too. I like the Target brand (unscented) the best, they come in a big box for $8. Six packs inside the box, and a pack lasts about a week (with one baby).
You can get away with buying cheap diapers for these little sizes, but once baby gets to 2′s or 3′s, you may have to spring for the good ones. My daughter now leaks (size 4′s) unless she gets Huggies or Pampers. Each baby is different, just ask your daughter how the diapers are working for the baby. I’m sure she’ll appreciate how considerate you are.
    Hope this helps~

for me my kids stayed in sizes 2 and 3 for a long time
I did not need to many infant or size one I think my kids were out of them before they were two months so I would add some size twos in there for her.
You are being a great mother and grandmother!!
    congratulations on the new addition

I would say at least 6 diapers a day for the first month or so as they get older it gets fewer. So a good start would be 6 a day for 6 months..thats around 1000 diapers…but they may need different sizes at different times so just buy as you go maybe a few packs at a time.

My daughter is one next month and has got through twenty. I have a few in the washing machine right now, a couple drying and the rest are on her changing mat.
If you’re concerned about cost, go reusable!!
