A Parent asks, I am married to a marine and I am 7 weeks pregnant we haven’t been to a doctor yet cause we have an appointment for August first I will be about 9 weeks then and i was wondering if anyone knows what tricare prime covers for pregnancy cause in the book it says it will only cover ultrasounds if anything is wrong but how will we know if we are having a boy or girl or if more than one kids or if our kid is healthy. If anyone knows anything please just let me know cause I am really worried.
Sorry i spelt military wrong.

My husband is in the Air Force and Tricare has covered everything for my pregnancy. I go once a month for a check up and next week is my 20 week sonogram. I dont see why the Air Force would be any different from the Marines.
First off congrats on the new baby! Now, tricare prime covers everything that has to do with your pregnancy to include delivery and hospital stay for you and the baby. As for the ultrasounds, by the 20th week the doctor has to perform an ultra sound to make sure that baby’s head and organ’s are performing correctly. This is around the same time that you find out the sex of the baby. Now, they make you wait for your first appt to take place around 8 or 9 wks, because by that time if you were to lose the baby it would’ve already happened. Sad but true.
Also, if you don’t like the ob provider chosen for you notify tricare asap and get a new referral to another doc. The best thing you can do is ask a currently pregnant woman or new mom whose the best ob to go and make sure they’re on the tricare network. Once you have this info let the folks at tricare know this is who you want and then they’ll place the referral for you.
Now, back to the ultrasounds, I had a provider who did and ultrasound practically every month. Mostly because he had the machine right in his office. So, you never know.
Stop worrying. Everything will work itself out. And make sure you sign up for the tricare Ob brief or sit down and talk to a tricare rep if you’re still not sure how everything works.
actually military is one of the best insurances. I grew up on it. they will cover you on most everything. and I think that they may only give you 1 ultrasound most insurance now a days do.
First off make sure you are Tri Care PRIME. That way if you have to get farmed out they still cover it all. There is no co pays at all..But they pay for the whole pregnancy. My son was 2 months early last year and was in special care for 17 days total was something like 15-20 thousand and I only paid 300-400 or something like that. I would have to go through my bills to get an exact figure but I am sure you get what I mean. Prime does not cost any extra.
my husband is a marine and tricare covers everything.. I’m 35 weeks pregnant.. you get 1 ultra sound at 20 wks and they only do more then one if they think something might be wrong..(like if they cant hear babys heart beat)
im a marinewife 33 weeks pregnant ive had two ultrasounds one two see how far along i was and the other to see the gender of the baby. everything is paid for dont u worry. tricare prime covers all
i too am pregnant and my husband is in the army and i found this website and so long as the doctor sees it is medically necessary you will not be charged. hope this helps you out.

i have tri-care prime its covered EVERYTHING and im 35wks with #2 and im a Navy wife.
i got a vaginal ultrasound at the beginning then they refered me to another OFF-BASE doctor for a 23wk Ultrasound. it was covered and paid for by Tri-care b/c the naval hospital had to refer me.
So ive only had 2 ultrasounds.
I do not know too much about Tricare, but here is what I know. My husband is in the Air force, and when we found out I was pregnant, the first thing we did was go to the base clinic and ask to have a pregnancy test. A couple days later the person in charge called back, confirmed the pregnancy and then referred me to a Women’s Health Clinic. I am now 15 weeks pregnant; I have been hospitalized, had to be put on very expensive medications, been to the ER,and had several tests that are all very expensive; all in all we have wracked up thousands of dollars in medical bills, and Tricare has paid for it all. I would not worry about things like the cost of tests and ultrasounds, whoever you are referred to will probably have those things set up as a part of the routine. I have already had several ultrasounds as part of the routine check up…I could go on and on, but, all in all, don’t worry…
Air Force Wife here….
Tri-Care Prime covers EVERYTHING! Its so wonderful. With my daughter, I had to go to the hospital several times for non-stress tests. Covered. I only got one ultrasound (every pregnancy is entitled to ONE ultrasound) and never needed anymore. The birth was completely covered as well. With this pregnancy, I have needed a few ultrasounds because of a placement problem with my placenta. Because it was medically necessary, it was covered! Tri-Care Prime is wonderful! (so far) lol
Tricare Prime will cover everything pregnancy related so long as you go to the doctor you were referred to. You have to have referrals for everything that your doctor can not do his/herself and still wants done.
It will cover your ultrasound, so long as the doctor puts down that it’s medically necessary, which he/she will. Remember that the ultrasound is not to find out the sex (which is nice) but rather to check on the growth and development of the baby to make sure you can have a safe delivery and pregnancy.

Best of luck.
