Q&A: Is it safe to take ibuprofen when you are in the first stage of labour?
Question by Honey: I will be asking my mid wife in a weeks time, but just incase I go before then, just wondering if it is safe to take when you first get the labour pains. I have a very low pain tolerance and I couldn’t survive period pain without taking any pain killers..I was wondering if I could use it while I was in the first stage of labour?
36weeks and 4 days with baby #1

NO NO NO
NO.. tylenol.. but they will give u something if it’s to unbearable
No, do not take ibuprofen at all during pregnancy!!!
not safe during any stage of pregnancy(tylenol if you want) and I don’t think it would help with the pain anyway…sorry hun
I have a low tolerance for pain and was alot stronger than I thought
(mine was practically natural), don’t underestimated your strength!
USUALLY YOU HAVE TO SUCK IT UP UNTIL YOU ARE ACTUALLY IN ACTIVE LABOR, WHEN YOU START TO DILATE AND WATER BREAKS AND THEN THEY CAN OFFER AN EPIDURAL, USUALLY WHEN YOUR PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING IS TYLENOL, IM STILL BREASTFEEDING AND THATS THE ONLY THING I TAKE. BUT NOPE SORRY, YOU HAVE TO ENDURE SOME KIND OF PAIN. BUT ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR BABY IN YOUR ARMS YOU FORGET ALL ABOUT IT PLUS US AS WOMEN WERE BUILT FOR THAT STUFF!
Definitely not. Tylenol only. You don’t want your baby getting ibuprofen.
I was told nothing exept tylonal in the last trimester!!!!!!!! Extremely bad for the baby…
I was always told no ibuprofen… if you need something you can take baby tylenol, but that’s it.
No to the ibuprofen..
But usually they do offer something for the pain in the beginning of labor (You have to ask about it). And once you’ve dilated enough, you have the option of getting an epidural. Unfortunately for me though, I progressed too quickly and since they didn’t check me when I asked, didn’t get an epidural. And if you’re getting something for pain through an IV (that’s what they’ll usually do) they can only do that for so long (I think it’s once they believe you’re about to start pushing soon). So if you really can’t tolerate pain, ask for something in the beginning and then try for the epidural. Good luck. =]
i’m pregnant with my first too, and let me assure you, all of us first timers and terrified of how we will handle the pain.
Ibuprofen can do serious damage, so stear clear.
take some paracetamol instead if you really need it. during the first stage of labour ask the midwife for pain relief and they will organise it for you
