Q&A: lost my mucus plug am I going to go into labor soon?

7 September 2010 7 Responses

Question by Amanda R: I am 35 weeks pregnant. I was 1/2 cm dilated, and then within 3 days became 1cm. I felt something was wrong and went to the doctor. I felt sick. The doctor said it could be early labor. Two hours later I saw a large amount of dark blood clots and bright blood. I called the doctor and they said it was my mucus plug and examined me. The thing is, I still feel like somethings not right. My baby girl dropped at 31 weeks, and I have been having contractions since then. What is wrong with me? They think it will be early labor but they can’t be sure. What does this mean?! Everyone I know said after they lost there mucus plug they had their baby that week. That I am having all the same symptoms that they all had. Any advice? I feel like someone is pulling on my baby, and making me feel like I am going to hurl.

Sounds like labor is coming soon. Did you go to obgyn doc or hospital doc? Have them do an ultrasound to check baby’s position. Have your bag ready just in case. Good luck and congrats!

hmm that dont sound like a mucus plug to me! its usually tinged with blood, not all blood (but maybe thats just me) anyways, yes after losing the mucus plus you usually do go into labor soon after!..not as in any minute after in some cases but soon! i did just hours after i lost mine, with all 3!..but it dont sound good, what your describing! you should really go back and be seen again, maybe by a hospital!…do u feel pressure at all?….

if you do have your baby soon, she has a great chance of survival!..

I lost my mucus plug and didn’t have my baby for two weeks. Are they sure about the due date? How much blood are you talking about? Mucus plugs shouldn’t have “large amounts of blood clots and bright blood.” I’m sure the doctor knows best, but have you asked him if you have placenta previa or if the placenta could possibly be becoming prematurely detached from your uterus? Just a thought, hope everything turns out alright.
