A Parent asks, will using the pump now bring in milk too early… Will i lose colostrum baby needs? Or will it not do anything?
I am full term, and am trying to get things progressing so I wont need to be medically induced

I believe the best way to bring on labor is by walking. If you go to the hospital they will tell you to walk around and that will definitely induce your labor.
I’m not sure about the breast pump.
no you will still have the colostrum. you can save it if you are worried. it will keep in a breast milk bag in the freezer for about 3 months. They say to do this to stimulate your nipples. I still say that if you can geet in the mood. Sex is the best to trigger labor!
everyone is different with my first it didn’t work, with my second nipple stimulation started contractions and got to 5cm and it stopped because they were not strong enough, i was induced and my water bag was broke. you can try but it has to be consistant, and it may not work. Good luck
You dont need to use a breast pump. You can play with your nipples yourself and bring on contractions without causing them to leak. Its called nipple stimulation. You use lotion and just rub your nipples. Its very time consuming. Google it and find out more about it.
I tried this when I was waiting for my baby girl. It did not work for me just made my breast sore.
Never herd that before..wait till u have the baby..rubbing your ankles will put u in labor happen to me on my second baby..good luck.
you will not lose any colosturm. You milk will not come in until your hormones change after birth anyway.
How far along are you? Is there a reason you are anxious to try to induce your own labor? I’d encourage you to trust your body to know when it’s time. If your body isn’t ready, nothing will work…..even a medical induction.
Yes, for some women nipple stimulation can induce labor. Pumping for 20 mins per hour may induce some contractions.
Pumping will not “use up” your colostrum. There is not a limited supply. You will continue to have colostrum until after you deliver the placenta. That signals your body to begin the switch from colostrum to mature milk, which takes a couple of days. Usually at 3-5 days postpartum you’ll notice your milk coming in and your breasts becoming engorged.
Talk to your prenatal caregiver before you do anything to attempt to induce labor on your own.
i would not ever suggest that cause when the baby is born he si going to need that first milk so unless you plan on giving him a bottle as soon as he is ready to be fed i suggest you try walking and lots of sex and spicey food trust me it helps!!!! plz dont do the breast pump thing though. the sex thing is very fun and exciting not to mention after u have the baby it will be a while before you feel up to it again so take advantage af the no soreness or baby and who knows maybe youll go into labor and have all that excitment in one day wooooo whoooo
breast stimulation helps and u can do this several ways yourself, a partner and even a warm shower directly on your breaasts. Walking will help to bring labor on for some people but not necesarrily all.( I walked 3 miles everyday and day I went into labor walked as well over 24 hrs of labor and that was with 3 child) Sex is another way but dont EVER let anyone tell u to use castor oil!!
I’ve known people who’ve done this, and I have seen it work because it directly stimulates the uterus, but at the same time, I’ve known people who have asked their doc first if it was ok, and they were told no, simply because of the same reason you listed here…the breast will only produce a certain amount of colostrum and you’re baby needs it within the first few hours of birth. So, I guess you should ask your doctor, hopefully he or she has some knowledge about this. Or you can call the hospital and talk to a breast feeding nurse.
Oh my, I would not use a breast pump for that – for one, they hurt! You wouldn’t lose any colostrum, but OW! There are other things you can do to bring on labor – have your husband do a manual “breast pump” & suck on your nipples, have sex with your husband (make sure you have an orgasm), run up & down stairs, do jumping jacks, stay on your feet a lot & just be very active, also eat parsley. These are all said to bring on labor.
Pumping milk definately will bring on labor. Even after you have the baby, you will have what feels like labor pains, not as painful, because the feeding sends messages to your brain to squeeze up the uterus to allow for it to return to normal size. You only make small amount of colostrum at first because the baby will typically feed every two hours. As the baby gets older, the milk changes depending what age the baby is. breast feeding is the most primitive, natural, and beautiful thing I have ever experienced. It was so wonderful to see my baby grow from milk made by me. And beware when that baby cries- because your breasts will pour milk! It’s your body’s response to knowing your baby’s cry. Also, a baby will turn toward it’s mother’s bra, or breast- even a newborn! They know, can sense some how which is their Mother’s!! The greatest thing I have ever done is give birth, and raise my children. Good luck!

Maybe??? I don’t really know…I do know this:
Unless it is medically necessary to have a child early induction is not the safest route to go. Average first pregnancies are 41 weeks 1 day & pregnancies with prior births average 40 weeks 3 days… It is optimal to be patient and wait until your body & baby are ready. Intervention usually leads to more intervening, and having an induction can put you at a higher risk of having a cesarean section, something that despite being the most common surgery in the U.S. carries many, many risks.
Some safe ways to try to bring on labor at home are:
Walking. And especially up & down stairs sideways. This helps the baby navigate the pelvic bones and allows the baby to put pressure on your cervix aiding in dilation.
Squatting is also good, both before labor & during. Before labor you can do squats to strengthen your legs for long periods of squatting during labor as well as stretching the joints & muscles associated with squatting. It also helps the baby put pressure on the cervix. And during labor it can open your pelvis up to 33% more, allowing more room for the baby to squeeze out!
I have heard good things about red raspberry tea (drink it chilled, hot it is gross!) It is said to strengthen your uterus, thus causing your contractions to be more efficient.
Sex or more specifically semen and orgasm are said to help you to release more of the natural labor-inducing hormone Oxytocin. And Sperm/semen contain prostaglandins another substance that is synthetically produced and used to aid in dilation!
Nipple stimulation is also another way to get your body to produce Oxytocin, as well as help to toughen up your nipples for the task of breast feeding that lay ahead!
I hope this was helpful, a great book about labor & birth is:
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer
I recommend it to all expectant parents!
CASTOR OIL IS A LAXATIVE AND HAS NEVER BEEN PROVEN TO BE SAFE OR EFFECTIVE AT INDUCING LABOR. IT CAN PASS THE PLACENTA CAUSING THE BABY TO PASS MECONIUM (POOP) INSIDE PUTTING HIM/HER AT A HIGHER RISK OF INFECTION AND OTHER SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS!
Nipple stimulation has been shown to cause as strong of contractions as pitoin, on occasion! I would talk to your doctor or midwife before attempting induction!!! Congrats though!!!!
