It shouldn’t affect the milk supply as you will still be pumping the milk. I didn’t get the full effect anymore after a month of nursing but when i pumped i ended up with a 6 oz bottle so i was producing plenty of milk.

It’s totally okay. As long as you’re expressing milk, you’ll keep getting more, and the more you express, the more you’ll get. It may take time, but expressed breastmilk in a bottle is STILL better than formula.

The less milk that is used from the breasts, the less they will produce. Expressing it during the day (at intervals that you would normally allow the baby to suckle) should help increase milk flow, and should help increase milk production. Having the baby nurse at night in place of a pumping session will have the same effects.

Unless your baby has a sucking issue, babies tend to be more efficient than pumps at draining a breast. Therefore, your supply will probably decrease from pumping in the daytime. Don’t be concerned that your breasts don’t feel full, as long as your baby is content after feeds and gaining weight, your supply is probably fine. Milk supply in the first few weeks is run by hormones and after that depends on supply and demand, the more you feed, the more you make. If your baby is more than a few weeks old, it is normal for your breasts to only feel really full after a long period such as baby sleeping through the night.

Hi Caitlyn’s mummy. No, this will not affect your milk supply. The way it works is the mammary glands have memory. The more activity, nursing or expressing, the more your body knows to produce more. As long as you don’t go on a retreat and not allow little Caitlyn to nurse, you should have plenty. Not to worry about the ‘full’ ness of your breast either, the supply is still there. Although, I should mention that nursing would stimulate more prolactin (hormone that produces the milk) than expressing. Your breasts know the difference between the two. I love your little animation beneath your avatar! Enjoy that baby!

hey as you probably know, your breast milk is there only on what you been using, for the first coupke of weeks our hormones tell us to make all this milk then we teach our bodies how much we need..

As long as you are still expressing milk- whether its by pumping or breastfeeding you will still have a good milk supply. The more you breastfeed and/or pump, the more milk your body will produce.

The only time your milk will decline is when you dont pump or breastfeed as much, or when you decide to stop.

If your baby is 6-8 weeks then its very normal to NOT feel FULL, bit infact you have plenty of milk as this is how long it takes for your supply to make what it needs, so your boobs will not feel like melons as they did the first couple months ! This is why alot of mums swap to formula as they think they dont have enough milk or baby is not getting enough.
You will produce more if you feed from the breast only. I know it can be stressfull and you like to kno wwhat she is getting but thats all part of the breastfeeding if she is putting on weight and has plenty of wet nappies then she is getting enough. I know I have expressed and baby does not like the breast milk from the bottle reheated but he likes his night bottle of formula and I feed him the rest of the time. Every baby is different though.
