Question by Hollie C: I have been told that if i stop breastfeeding my daughter at 12 months to i need to give her 12+ formula in place of breast milk for nutrients of can i just have her on fruit, and veges and water and stuff like that??
There is a family history of dairy allergies on my partners side. So can i give her something like goats milk instead? I have heard soy milk can be bad for babies…

homogenized milk..
Once they are a year old you can give them whole milk. The 12 month+ formula is just a way to get you to spend more money with the formula companies… unless your Dr tells you to put the baby back on it the milk and a balanced diet is fine!
There is no need for formula after 12 months, as someone else said it is just a way to try to get you to spend more money. At 12 months your daughter can have whole milk. She can eat pretty much anything you eat.
If you stop nursing at 12 months of age then you can give her whole milk.
My mom stopped giving my baby sister (sister=2 years old, I’m 24… go figure lol) formula before she was a year old. She had been eating baby food for a few months and mom gave her milk instead of breastmilk or formula, gradually, I think. So you could start feeding her the baby food here and there but still breastfeed for a while, and also give her a small bottle of milk here and there instead of breastmilk, until she’s completely off the breast. Tip: Add a little prune juice to each milk bottle to help her digest it. Honestly, I think that companies have started making these “toddler formulas” just to make money. A normal diet of fruit/veggie/protein/carb baby foods, plus water/juice/milk, is all that a baby needs. How else have humans survived all these years?
Does not your daughter have a pediatrician. They usually tell you at what age you can introduce new food or you can buy a book. She should have been taking fruits and vegetables by now. You could have given her water from the time of her birth. I would not give her goat mil without consulting a pediatrician
ive wean my son on to formula fully at 11 months and i dont plan on giving him cows milk till at least 18 months because of the same reason . ( my mother had me on soy milk from 11 months old)
Ive givin him a taste of a few dairy items and they didnt agree with him at all .
Your daughter will still need to have some calcium so its better to put her on an alternative to cows milk. i will be using the 12+ formula for my son but talk to ya daughter doc before giving her goats or soy milk .
I heard that soy milk can change hormone production in young boys .. so im not giving it to my son lol
you can continue to breastfeed after 12 months. although baby gets most of her nutrition from her solids at this point, continuing breastfeeding would still be beneficial and practical (considering the history of family allergies.)
also you can’t wean too quickly, its no good for you (engorgement is very uncomfortable and can cause infections) nor is it good for baby (you don’t want her to feel rejected.) the best approach to weaning, if you decide to do it, is don’t offer the breast but don’t refuse it if “requested.” plus, remember, once baby starts on solid foods the process of weaning has already started.
once weaned, you could try goat’s milk as a cow’s milk alternative. it actually has less vitamins than cows milk, so you want ot make sure your Little one is eating a balanced diet otherwise
