Should breast feeding be taught in high schools?

7 July 2010 12 Responses

Question by My Questions and Answers: With high rates of very young/adolescent pregnancies, for instance.
If not anyway, so women when their older, know how to do it.
Although not all women seem to be able to.
Not all mothers breast feed.
Gfgd – I’m a man you idiot!
I heard about it on morning TV in the past month or so.

No, breastfeeding should not be “taught” in highschool. If a parenting or childcare class is available at the highschool, then they should mention breastfeeding as an option of feeding your child. They offer lactation specialists and breastfeeding courses at local community centers, hospitals, etc. It does not belong in highschool.

Yes but i think that it should be taught only when women are around because in high school guys minds get a little wild.

you pretty much just answered your own question.
NO it should NOT be taught.
1-not all mothers breast feed. actually, MOST mothers dont breast feed.
    so, whats the point.
Those who wish to learn, can seek the help else where. Dont occupy another student’s time who actually wants to learn something else.

    Not really.

That’s a specific need to do with parenting geared towards women only.

So how far would you go. If you started teaching that, why not fathering skills… How to talk to your kids about sex etc etc lmao

List just goes on. We’re humans and can learn stuff like that ourselves. Just like you don’t need to teach guys how to masturbate.

Why would it need to be taught in school? When you have a baby you go to the hospital. The nurses in the hospital teach you while you are there. You can’t really learn everything you need to know without doing it anyway so it would be pointless to teach it to people who are not currently trying to do it.

I think, why they do not teach it, is because it would seem almost like they are condoning having a child. At least when you have a baby, the hospitals always seem to ask now if you would like someone to come in and show you how.

No, I don’t think they should.

This would be embarrassing for the students and I think if people thought they knew how to do it, it would increase their chances of having a baby at an early age.

However, I think maybe if someone has already had a child while they are still in school, they should be made to go to a class to be taught this sort of stuff.

People can go to classes when they are pregnant to be taught how to do this stuff anyway, so i don’t think it needs to be taught to everyone in school.

Teaching a woman how to do it is something that should be saved for when she’s actually expecting – especially in the last couple weeks. Having watched my ex-wife do it with two different kids, it wasn’t a difficult thing. What was more difficult for her was finding the most comfortable position and as I recall, it was different with both kids.

I do think health and/or sex ed classes should teach the benefit of breast feeding. And it’s something the boys should learn about as well.

In my opinion, I don’t think schools should teach it. I think this is something they should learn from their doctors. That’s just my simple honest opinion.

Unless the school WANTS teen pregnancies to occur, then no, breastfeeding should not be taught. Schools should continue teaching useful courses for adolescents– teen girls shouldn’t be pregnant, and teaching a class that is only really relevant for pregnant teens just goes and says, “It’s okay for this to happen, this is considered normal!”
