Question by jessica v: i know its supply and demand when your breastfeeding, so will this lenghth of time(8-9 hours) lessen my milk production? when i wake up at 3 to feed him, i have to pump and then feed him cause they are so engorged. but i love the fact i can sleep for that long, and its not so bad pumping and feeding at one time…just wondered if its bad for supply thanks

I would imagine that if you pumped right before you went to bed – that should be good. It’s not like you are going days without breastfeeding.
At this age you should be fine. If you want to pump you can (you could always freeze the milk for later use), but your breasts should adjust as long as he’s nursing often the rest of the time. You will become less engorged at 3 a.m. as your body adjusts to the change in demand.)
(One small suggestion — you might consider picking baby up for a feeding at YOUR bedtime. That way he may shift his long-night-sleep so he’s sleeping when you sleep. You won’t have to wake at 3 a.m. to nurse him, (and pump at 3 a.m….) and he’ll still have that one 8 hour stretch.)
I had this same problem- I’d be shooting milk everywhere by the time my son woke up to nurse! I ended up pumping one breast and feeding off the other. I would then freeze the milk or use it later in the day (didn’t have as much by my evening feedings).
