Does anyone have any tips on weaning a baby from breastfeeding?

Question by Roni: My baby is ten months old and I am thinking about weaning her after her 1st birthday. I just recently weaned her from her night feeding and that as very hard,because she still sleeps in the bed with me. really want to be prepared.

you could get a breast pump and that way you can stock up on milk in your freezer, but cut down on feedings. you will then have enough milk to last you until she is one, but you will not have to breastfeed.
The easiest thing would be to get her into her own bed. Even if it’s a pack n’ play beside you. She can smell your breastmilk, and it seems rather unfair to entice her with the smell and have them so close and available, but not let her have any. Having your baby in your bed is your decision, and please understand I’m not saying you’re doing anything wrong.

Offer your baby a bottle every other feeding and then if you give her juice give it to her out of a bottle and you will start offering it to her more and more and then she will find that a bottle is less work and she won’t want anything to do with the breast…..i know i just did it 3 months ago……goodluck
I had to wean my child at 1 yr b/c I was pregnant again and was scared that nursing would take nutrients away from the fetus. Anyhow, I just woke up one morning and told my daughter that we weren’t doing it anymore. She was totally ok with it. Never complained once. My dauther is one of the most headstrong kids I know, if she did it then I’ll bet yours can. Kids amaze me on how willing they are to change. If a child knows what is expected of them then they usually are ok, it’s when we become wishy washy parents that gets them confused. For this reason, I would not wean, I would just simply stop. Is it painful to you?Use the suction pump and store your milk in a freezer,whenever she needs you can feed her with a bottle feeder.The number of milk producing glands will cause breast sensation!And you yourself will feed her by breast feeding.Log on to http://www.bfar.org and seek some more advise.Don’t consume contraceptive pills until you weaning a baby from breast feeding.
The first thing I would try is get move her out of your bed. Then do the don’t offer don’t refuse method- don’t ask her is she wants to nurse and don’t turn her down if she asks. After doing that for a little bit try postponing for a little bit when she asks. A change in routine can help, instead of nursing first thing in the morning offer a sippy cup with watered down juice. I heard that the feeding before bed is the hardest for them to give up so I always made that one the first that we stopped.
I would usually take a month to wean my kids. Every six days, I would discontinue one feeding and replace it with a cup and baby food. Doing it slowly, I did not get engorged.
Allow her to wean. It is the best for both of you. My son weaned off of me at 2 1/2 years old. Breast milk is still very healthy for your chid over a year old. So allow her to wean off of you when she is ready.
