Is it ok to start birth control pill right after 6 week checkup without waiting for your first period?

A Parent asks, are you supposed to wait till the sunday after your period comes back? i started the pill the day my dr. gave it to me at my six week postpartum checkup. i didn’t wait for my period…will everything be ok? will my period come durring the sugar pills at the end of the pack like usual? i am not breastfeeding.
