I would not eat yams. Yams have a nutrient in them that increases your chances of having twins.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I guess you could avoid higher risk factors such as waiting to conceive until you are over 35, trying right after being on the pill, diets rich in dairy and yams, being overweight – all of these things increase your chance for twins. You should also avoid fertility meds and treatments like IUI.
Outside of that, you can talk to your doctor. It is possible to have an ultrasound before ovulation to see if you are developing one mature egg or more. If there is more than one . . . then skip that cycle. Identical twins are a mystery, but doing this could help you to avoid fraternal twins . . . I am not sure that the doctor would do this if it was not medically necessary . . . but it is possible.
Good luck!
