What feels like period pain at 35 weeks and 5 days pregnant?

26 February 2010 9 Responses

A Parent asks, The last 2-3 days I have been getting what feels like period pain in my lower abdomen. The pain lasts for about 20-30 minutes and then goes away. I get it probably every 6 hours or so. No contractions or anything, just swear to god that it feel exactly like I’m getting my period.

Is this normal? What does it mean?

what ur experiancing is known as braxton hicks contactions they are like “fake” contraction and can happen throughout pregnancy, it is perfectly normal, but if u feel that things arnt right go and see ur gp, just ask ur gp on ur next visit and he should conferm that its braxton hicks
    hope this helps

Sounds like labor is on the way! Braxton Hicks are normally not painful, wait to see if these “pains” get closer together and also see if they are regular… good luck!

Its probably the area down there stretching a little bit getting ready for the baby. I would mention it to your doctor at you next visit though.

    Braxton hicks…
Had that the other day every 5-15 mins apart and it went on for quiet a number of hours…
Have a bath, it will help take the edge of it…

It is probably your body getting ready for labor, but any pain in your tummy should be checked out. I got asked by a midwife at the hospital when i was experiencing the same pain,’does it feel right?’ and my response was ‘no’. Her response was,’ you should get it checked out .’

How exciting! It sounds like your body is getting ready to have your baby!

It feels like period pain because the uterus is squeezing and releasing its’ muscles just a little which is exactly what it does when you have your period (to push the old lining out).

So, enjoy them and look forward to meeting your baby. Each one of these “pains” (and later the proper contractions) will bring you a little closer to meeting your son or daughter. Congratulation on your imminent transition to motherhood!

    Bless.

ps: talk to your obstetrician/midwife/doula about it if you like. It’s always good to get reassurance about these things.

I’m due right around when you are and had the same thing on Tuesday last week. My doctor said they were contractions but since they werent regular, it was most likely braxton hicks contractions.. I’ve had them off and on like you for the rest of the week but nothing has come of it! He advised me to drink a lot of water and lay down as much as possible when it happens
