How long does an egg “live” in the woman’s body after ovulation?

A Parent asks, I’m just wondering because I’m on like the 23-24 day of my cycle right now and I know that ovulation usually takes place around the 14 day or so of the cycle. So…….does this mean that my egg has already died? I heard that they live for like 24-72 hours after ovulation. Does anybody know?
Do you think I can get pregnant if I tried?

about 17 days.
Not very long hey, you heard right.
The egg lives in the womb for 5 days (120 hours) after ovulation.
Yup. Anywhere from 12 to 24 hours. Yes, the egg has died.
Yes. They do live for 24-72 hours after ovulation because that’s how long that the egg takes to travel out of the ovary, down the fallopian tubes and down to the uterus. If its not fertilized by the time it gets to the uterus, then it dies and gets flushed out from your body in your period. No, you won’t get pregnant, because the egg has already died and the sperm that enters your body won’t find an egg and so will just die as well.
First of all ur perception of ovulation takes place in 14 days is not exactly correct. It is average day of woman. Every woman has different time for ovulation. Don’t take it as exactly of 14 days. Secondly, after ovulation the egg survives only upto 24 hours, if sperm is not able to contact within time frame it dies. Iam not sure my answer has met ur question. U can refer a lot from website just type ovulation in search engine.
Ok, so it looks like most people on here have not done their homework. I have researched this immensly when I was TTC. The egg only lives for 12-24 hours once released from the ovary. Studies find that the actual time is closer to the 12 hour mark. Thats why it is suggested you have intercourse the days leading up to ovulation, because sperm live longer and will wait for the egg. If you wait till the day you actually ovulate, by the time the sperm gets to the egg, it may already be starting to disintegrate, therefore conception does not take place.
And yes, more than likely it is too late for you to concieve, although nature is never predictable.
Hope this helps
