Did an ovulation test kit help you get pregnant?

7 March 2010 8 Responses

A Parent asks, I stopped taking the pill a few weeks ago, after being on it for 10 years.

I am up to day nine of my cycle, took a test today which was negative. Is it worth me worrying about ovulation testing this early on or should I keep up with it??

Also, how long did it take you to fall pregnant if you were previously taking the pill? I have heard so many conflicting stories!!
Also, the instructions say to wee into a container, does it have to be done like this or can you just wee on the stick?

I’m hoping using OPKs helps me get my BFP this cycle =) I got off the pill in May and started TTC in August so this is my third cycle TTC. My cycles stayed the same length and everything that they were when I was on the pill also. I had been taking it for 5 years. The OPKs gave me peace of mind that I was in deed ovulating.

I went off the pill in August after being on it for the same length of time as you. Unfort my cycles off the pill are very irregular so I am using OPK and paying attention to the changes in my CM. I would wait 1 month being off the pill before you started trying so you can see what your cycle length off the pill could be. This will help you better determine when to start testing with the OPK. If you have a 28 day cycle then you would ovulate around day 14 – so testing on day 9 would be too early. If your cycles are longer than this number will vary. Goodluck and baby dust!!

Hey, i was on the pill for 7 years. Stopped in april 2009, being ttc since then, haven’t used OPK’s yet, but will if not successful this month. Cause i want to know if i am in fact ovulating. Just though to let you know my cycles were longer for the 3 and 4 on off the pill. but last two have been around 30 days. So just give it a few months to get out of your system, then start using OPK’s. good luck and baby dust. = )

It may take a few months for your cycle to become regular again… I wouldn’t bother with the ovulation predictor kit… I bought it and was peeing on the stick every day and it never showed I was ovulating…

I think it’s better to use the thermometer method, and chart your morning temperature every day. I haven’t done it yet, but I hear it works.

I’d buy an OPK just in case. I’ve heard that it takes a few months for the pill to get out of your system, especially after that long, but it doesn’t hurt. I took the pill for 2 years, and fell pregnant about 6 months after, and my DH and I weren’t even trying to get pregnant!

I’ve used an OPK for 4 months now with no success, but I did find out last month that I had a softball sized cyst on my left ovary, which could have prevented ovulation all around. I’m going to use an OPK again this month and pray that I fall pregnant.

My sis in law, on the other hand, used one and got pregnant the first month that she used it.

You can just wee on the stick, but it has to be for at least 5 seconds in a continuous stream. Just make sure that the stick is good and saturated, or you could get inaccurate results. Good luck and baby blessings!!!

also if you use an ovulation test. Don’t test 1st time you use the bathroom in the morning.I tested around 4hrs after the 1st time I urinated. Around 11 or 12 worked for me. I read sometimes your urine in the morning won’t pick up the surge. Hope I helped someone and again good luck and best wishes:)P.S just try not to drink alot during the 4 hrs or you won’t make it lol
