How long did your labor last with your first child?

A Parent asks, I was induced. My son took 36 1/2 hours. I’m just curious about other women. I would like to hear from lucky ones who only took a few hours and those not as lucky.

I was in labor for I think 18 hours..I was induced as well..took me about 5 minutes to push him out though
Too long…but not as long as you…It took 13 hrs.
I was also induced, went through the painful contractions for hours, then had an epidural, & soon after an emergency c-sec… It was the worst experience ever!
I was induced and it took 32 hours, until they decided to do a c-section.
1st was 5 hours
2nd i was induced and took 30 minutes total
I was one of the “lucky ones” I was induced at midnight, and delivered my son at 9:23 the next morning. That’s less than 10 hours.
12 hours with my first, about 30 minutes with my second.
First child was induced took about 8 hours. Second child wasn’t induced only took 1 hr 45 min. I think I’m one of the lucky ones.
My wife was induced on our 3rd child..Took only a few hours
With my second daughter, from the time I was admitted to the hospital at 5 cm, till delivery was about 5 hours. SO good luck to you!
i’m the first child and my mom was in labor for 52 hours. my younger sister=6hours.
Six hours with the first, three with the second and the other two were c-sections.
i started having contractions at about 1am…water broke at 3am, we got to the hospital at 430am and he was born at 830am. that being said, i didnt have any painful contractions and by the time i got to the hospital i was dialated enough to get an epidural right away
26 hours ~ then ended up having to have a Cesarean
I was induced, but my labor was only 4 hours. Don’t hate me please….
I started having contractions at 1:30 a.m. and had my daughter at 8:36 a.m. So about seven hours.
ouch! Girl, im sorry!! Mine took 16 1/2 hours. Took castrol oil that night before and sshe was born the next evening.
My water actually broke with no contractions. So they induced me 6 hours after my water broke. Since my water broke, they only have like 24 hours to get the baby out so the induction really started everything going. He was out 12 hours after I was induced and 18 hours after my water broke.
I felt about an hour of the “full” contractions, which as I recall SUCKED, but it was well worth the pain and the epidural was fabulous!
I was induced after my water broke and I wasn’t dialating and it took about 12 hours until I was fully dialated. The pushing only took about 5 mins – 3 pushes and he was out.
I was in labor for 17 hours and 31 minutes. I consider myself pretty lucky. 9 hours was at home.
I was having contractions for 2 days but I was only in active labor for about 3 minutes. My daughter slid out on the second push!
My first took 13 hours from the time my water broke until he was born, but I was in labor off and on for the month before hand. My second was in 4 hours from the start to the finish, my third was also in 4 hours from the start of heavy contractions to the delivery, but I had been feeling painful contractions off and on for about a week before hand. Now with the twins, I am going to have a C-seciton, so there goes all that great experience. Doesn’t do my any good now, lol.
I was in labor for almost exactly 36 hours.
With both of my children.
my first baby i was in labor for 5 hours and my second baby16 hours ! i had healthy babies so considered myself extremely lucky. thank you Lord!
like from the time my water broke was like 20 min.but from the time i started to cramp to having him was like 10 hours.
wow, you make my labors look like a piece of cake! with my first daughter, i went into labor 6 weeks early, and i didn’t even realize i was in labor until my water broke, then she was born just under an hour later, i had just barely made it to the hospital on time. with my second daughter i was induced at 36 weeks, and it was about 12 hours from when they gave me the medication to start labor to when she was born.
I was induced, but the whole thing lasted about 22 hours.
My first wasnt the problem. My water broke and I went into labor with him at Wal-mart at 7 pm, and gave birth to him a minute before 1 am. With my second son, I went into labor at about 4 pm and had him at 8:06 that same evening. I figured 6 hours for the first, 4 for the second, this third time will be a breeze. I was induced EARLY in the morning and then he (FINALLY) had to be removed via c-sec the next day because he just would not come out!! So for him about 33 hours and the doctor had wanted to wait another day. Basically, I told him that he would never be in labor and if he ever had to experience it, he wouldnt want to go through an extra day of it eitehr..lol
My water broke on it’s own and labor ONLY lasted 11 hours
A friend of mine just had hers this morning and was in labor for only THIRTY MINUTES. Lucky brat!!!
She was dilated to a 4 last week and has been having contractions/Bh/cramps for awhile, so I think she was more than ready.
35 hours. I was scheduled for an induction but started having contractions before my appointment. My daughter was born 6 days late.
18 hours, but it was easy until the last 2 or so. I had mostly back labor, and when I called my doctor, she didn’t believe I was in labor! No one checked me at the hospital until 7 p.m. because they didn’t think I was “showing enough symptoms” All of a sudden I’m hooked up to machines, and they’re calling my ob gyn to hurry up. I had him a couple hours later. Everyone apologized for putting me off until the last minute. I continuously said ” I really think the baby is coming, my grandmother never had much pain, and she had three children.” No one would listen, they just thought i was a hypochondriac new mom. I enjoy that my story is humorous and the pain was manageable. I feel bad for the women that have such a hard time.
19 hours start to finish. started at 4 in the afternoon, bad pain by 1am epidural from 9am to 10 am. then they shut it off and i pushed til 11:25 when my son was born. he was stuck and then came out face up. ouch
my second was 5 hours. started at 7:00 pm no pain til10:30pm. pushed through 3 contractions, and she was born on 6th push.
a little over 5 hours from start to finish! I had an awesome first labor!!! No one could believe it was my first baby. It was easy and I didn’t think it was all that painful. I mean sure it hurt, but I could handle it. All natural, no drugs or epidural.
From the first contaction untill birth it was 12 hours exactly but I didnt go to the hospital until 5 hours before she was born (the first 7 hours were pretty easy and teh contractions didnt really hurt )and it took two pushes. With my second, my water broke at 3:45pm and he was born at 9:00pm with only two pushes.
Im sorry about your labor was so long. When labor is induced it does tend to take a little longer. i hope that your nest (if there is going to one) goes better
Mine was great! I was in Mississippi and I live in Alabama, so as you all know I was not supposed to be traveling!!! So I went to bed, and around midnight my water broke! I was young and stupid, thought I wet the bed, woke my husband up and my mom… about one hour later we left to come back home to Alabama, and I made it to the hospital just under three hours later, fully dialated and no drugs and they said push! One good push and he was here… All within about 4 hours!!!
I was induced at 2:30 am and in labor for 12 hours and 6 minutes. The longest 12 hours of my life. The bad thing is after all that time, I ended up having to have a C-Section so it was really wasted, painful time. I would not dialated past 7 and my son was faced the wrong way and the doc could not get him to rotate. So mine went rough, this time I will have a scheduled c-section to avoid all the pain.
i got to the hospital at 11pm, and i gave birth to my son just before 6am.. almost 7 hours total.
16 hours. It took me 10 hours to get to 5 cm. After that my labor progressed pretty good. I pushed for 2 hours though!
wow 36 1/2 hours… i was in labor for 7 hours with my frist child and only pushed for 45 min. i was told your first one is suppose to take the longest but my little girl coudlnt wait.
7 hours
contractions all back labor started at 6am i waited a hour to see if it was real called my mom by 7:15 she got to my place at 8am got to the hospital at 8:30 was 2cm and 100% effaced walked for 15 Min’s was at 4cm got a enema and sat in the Whirlpool tub for 20 Min’s went to 8cm started pushing at 1:30 son was born at 1:48. did all of this with out pain relive they used a suction cup because i would stop pushing during a contraction and he would slide back in. they cut me to help move it along. this was my first son
but i should mention i was not induced the only thing my ob did was stripped my membranes the day before i went into labor because i was only 1cm and 50% effaced for 2 weeks
i went into labor with my daughter after my midwife stripped my membranes. I was in labor for 22 hours total. They even gave me pitocin to help but it didn’t much. I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second child and i hope I’m not in labor nearly as Long this time around.
My doctor broke my water for me. From then until my first son was born, it was 5 1/2 hours. Second son was an emergency c-section. I think it took roughly 45 minutes.
Way to long. 15 long hours. I slept through most of it after the epidural but it wore off before the pushing.
I was induced and it only took 7 hours. Only pushed 5 times!!
i was induced at 6 am in the morning and had her at 2:08 p.m
About 5 and a half hours.
I was induced with cervadil at midnight and was having contractions by about 2 am. The really bad contractions started at about 4 am.
He was born at 7:38 am.
11 hours total. I had a really easy labor and this was my first child.
I was in labor for 23 hrs. I was also induced.
I was induced, 41 hours in total. 20hrs after my water broke. I wonder if there is any one else longer than me!
I was in “labor” for 2 weeks….dialated 5 cm. Then my water broke and I labored for 18 hours, got an epidural, chilled out for a couple of hours and then pushed for 4 and a half hours and BINGO! All that and truly the best day ever.
