What are some signs that i’m beginning labor?

A Parent asks, I actually have 2 questions, one – what are some signs of starting labor? & two, what does the term “effaced” mean? I’m 38 weeks and 4 days. When I went to the doctor last week, I was only 1 cm dialated. For the past few days i’ve had cramping in my lower stomach & i’ve just been really exhausted. I’ve also had diaharrea for the past 2 days. Is it possible that i’ll be going into labor soon?

yes it is possible if you’ve been having diahrrea. just keep count when you “think” you are having contractions. if they are all happen at the same time, like say almost exactly 10 mins. apart eachtime, then that is contractions. you should look it up and you will know for sure when its time to go in. or call your doctor.
Yes it is possibe as those are both signs of labor starting. Effacing is when your cervix shortens, when you are 50% effaced it has shortened half the length and 100% means that there is NO length. You have to be 100% effaced to give birth, But you can be 80% or more for weeks and still not have a baby or dialate (personal experiance) Like with my last baby I was 4cm and 70% effaced for about 7 weeks! Congrats and good luck I hope that helped.
yes …you’ll know soon enough …water will break …pain will worsen thats about all …”effacement” refers to the thinning of the cervix.
lots of women get diaharrea before they go into labour….
Yes. Backache, cramping, diarrhea, etc. Effacement means your cervix is thinning and shortening. Being that far along in your pregnancy will leave you exhausted as well! Good luck!
Only one in ten women has their water break. Losing the mucus plug is a better sign. You’ll have some gross discharge tinged with pink and that’s the plug. Once that comes out, labor will follow shortly.
I’m 38 weeks, 1-2 cm dilated and cramping, too. Fun! No mucus plug yet, though, so I’m not worried. I am watching the toliet every time I go, though.
