when did your period return to normal after giving birth?

1 March 2010 7 Responses

A Parent asks, i had my first period at 6 weeks postpartum and it was normal…had mild cramping a little p.m.s. etc….well I havent had one since. it has been over 5 weeks since my last period. i know it can be irregular when breastfeeding, but I am no longer breastfeeding so shouldn’t my periods be regular again? or can the still be irregular when you arent nursing too? is so for how long? any personal experiences would be helpful! Thanks. I am getting a little concerned that I am pregnant again.

Are you taking birth control?? That can make you be irregular too and you may even skip a period depending on what you are using. My daughter is almost 3 months and I just got my period again and I am using birth control now. You should take a test just so you can feel alittle at ease.

Mine has not returned, it is now 10 months. I am nursing though. I thought mine would return after reducing the number of feeds but it hasn’t. My doctor has said that it does take time for my bodies hormones to go back to normal. Your body is probably is still getting over the pregnancy and birth so your hormones may not be back to normal yet. Take a preg test to be on the safe side. If you are still concerned go and see your doctor and they may prescribe you a mini pill to help regulate you. Good luck and enjoy not have your monthly friend skipping its visit.

5 month postpartum, and now its 1 lake late.
i went to the doctor and she said it could take up to a year for your body to return back to normal.

I think it takes time for your periods to become normal again after giving birth!!

I stopped feeding a month ago and soon after that i had my 1st period since i gave birth 7 1/2 months ago!! Then again today, my 2nd time ~ both times have and are painful, I never had painful periods till after this birth.

I can also say that they have started on different days, which I’m just guessing my body is still adjusting back to normal again!!

I had a forceps delivery 5 months ago and i’m not breastfeeding and my period still hasn’t returned yet. I did bleed afterwards though for almost 10 weeks. Doctors did a bloodtest and all was fine. I have now been referred for an ultrasound to find out whats happening.
