Have your bladders gone back to normal since giving birth?

9 March 2010 4 Responses

A Parent asks, I had my daughter 6 months ago, and though it’s not as bad as it was when I was pregnant, I still have to pee more often then before. I still have to get up at least twice a night, where I used to be able to go all night. It’s really kind of annoying!

Just wondering if it’s normal, or if I should go see a doctor?
And if I should go see a doctor, do I go to my OB, or my regular doctor?

My youngest is going to be 2 years old in 2 weeks. I still pee a couple times in the night — but if for some reason my daughter sleeps through the night, I typically don’t wake up special to go to the bathroom. But if I am up with her I do notice that I have to pee, and have to go every time she is up. Also, sometimes when I sneeze or cough a couple drops squeak out lol. I hate it, but I kind of expect it. I remember being a kid like 7 or 8 years old and my mom would laugh so hard sometimes that she would have to run to the bathroom fast or pee her pants! And I was the baby of the family, so it has been 7 or 8 years for her. However, I did have my children close together, as did my mom (me and my sister are 18 months apart — my son and daughter are only 12 months 4 days apart), so I don’t know if having two close together increases your chances of your bladder not being back to normal. I wouldn’t be concerned at all, it is normal, unfortunately! But it’s well worth it; I wouldn’t trade the kids for anything!

My bladder went back to “normal” right away.
I was SO uncomfortable in terms of my bladder during pregnancy- right from the start all the way to the end, that I almost didn’t want to go anywhere sometimes. It just seemed like more a chore than anything- and running errands was a nightmare.

It’s been a year and I am STILL thankful at times when I realize that I haven’t gone to the bathroom for 6 hours!! However- I too get up in the middle of the night at least 2x.
It goes like this for me: I drink a lot of water at night, and no matter if it’s been 8 hours or just 2 hours, each time I get up in the middle of the night, I always have to go pee. And my son still gets up sometimes in the middle of the night- so I never go an antire night without peeing. I’m OK during the day though.
I think this is normal though- as during the day you are “using” your fluids, need to keep your body more hydrated and are also sweating out your fluids- even if you’re just sitting (gross I know).
At night, our bodies are processing faster and getting rid of excess fluids I think.
I have always gotten up in the middle of the night to pee, so I guess I never given it too much thought!!
Personally I think it’s pretty normal!!

it’s normal in that sense, but i have to actually have a little effort to urinate now, where as before i really didn’t, i could sit down on the toilet and let go; now i have to work for it; doc said it was normal, but it doesn’t feel normal….oh well
