I had a spinal and tore and felt the stictches being put in. It didn’t hurt badly, but afterwards it hurts like hell! I had a 4th degree tear though.

    Good luck!

I tore with my daughter. Didn’t even feel it.
I went drug-free with her too.
If you do tear then they give you a numbing shot to stitch you up.

Once you get to the point that you might tear, the baby will be putting so much pressure on that area that you wouldn’t feel the tear. With me, they did an episiotomy and I still tore beyond that. When it came time to stitch me up, they numbed the area first; so, I felt the stitches a little bit, but not too much.

My brother is an obgyn and his wife said that you can’t even feel when they make the cut to prevent tearing. The stitches are uncomfortable and since you keep bleeding after your pregnancy kind of take a while to heal bc it is constantly wet down there. However, like him and his wife said they cut it so it won’t tear and the contractions take away from all of the pain , so you don’t even feel them cutting it. Good luck!

I tore with my son. I didn’t even feel it and had no idea I tore until my doctor told me she had to stitch me up. Your body releases natural chemicals that numbs the area. The stitches felt a little awkward afterwards but it didn’t hurt. Within a week I was back to normal

I had a drug-free birth. I had an episiotomy, not a tear. I was given something (in a needle) to numb the site about 15 seconds before she cut me. The cut was rather large- when they were trying to take a picture of the baby, they also got a picture of that which was pretty gorey. I didn’t really feel the stitches being put in- plus I think your adrenaline helps out.
I wouldn’t be too worried about tearing or an episiotomy in terms of pain.
If you clean it well afterwards with the spray bottle they should provide you with, you shouldn’t have any problems and it really shouldn’t cause too much of a problem except mild discomfort.

I tore with my first. It burns I know that. But you should ask your doctor to massage you down there while your pushing to help stretch it out. My doc did that with my second and i didn’t tear. or have your spouse do it for you lol…not while your in labor of course. I didn’t feel the stitches…I think its because you are soo overwhelmed about the life you just brought into the world. you don’t feel much after…just love. good luck and congrats on the new addition to your life.

It can hurt when a woman tears, but not always. There is so muc pressure and stretching happening on the perineum that pain perception is masked. More likely, you will feel the stretching sensation like burning. Some doctors and midwives use a local anesthesia to numb your perineum while you are crowning to reduce pain, however, this can actually make you more likely to tear.

When you are being sewn up, you are given a local anesthetic, so it does not hurt.

The best ways to avoid tearing are: do not birth on your back, breathe naturally as your body determines (no one can count and holler at you, “Push! Push!” during contractions), listen to your doctor or midwife when you are crowning and stop pushing when you feel the burning/stretching, and have someone use warm compresses on your perineum while you are crowning.

Perineal massage is supposed to help, but you have to do it for about 5-6 weeks before baby comes, which really can’t be done at this point of your pregnancy. You could still do perineal massage, but it probably won’t help quite as much.

I had a natural birth with a minor tear (2 stitches) and neither tearing nor getting stitched up hurt. I did not feel myself tearing at all.

I never tore with any of my kids but my sister did. She said that [with an epi] that she did not feel a thing. She did say that she had to have a bunch of stitches. My sister-in-law is a LPN and she says that if you have a good doctor that he/she will be able to massage blood back into the area to keep you from tearing during the delivery.

If I were you…I would not be too afraid because it happens all the time and the docs know how to handle it. Plus, if you have an epi you probably won’t feel a thing!

You may want to keep some of that spray lidocane stuff near you after the pain meds wear off!

I had and episiotomy and I tore during labor, however I had an epidural so I did not feel the tearing, or the stitches, because I was all numbed up. I can’t tell you how it felt without the drugs.

You can asked to be cut,if needed, but when my doctor and I talked about it,he said he thinks that the tearing is better since your body knows how many layers of skin to tear through. You won’t feel the tearing, and the stitches don’t hurt too much since your already in pain and a sorta euphoric state from seeing your baby and having that love feeling.

I had a 3rd degree tear (also had an episiotemy) and had an epidural. It was terrible afterwards. I could barely walk for a good 2 months. It was just so sore. Now, 7 months later, it still hurts on occasion.

I got an epi and it didn’t work. I teared in two places, top and bottom. It felt like a severe burning sensation down there when I was pushing. That hurt more than a 9lb baby coming out. Afterwards hurt more than anything. It stung like crazy.

I tore while giving birth to my son who weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces. It wasn’t his head that tore me, but actually his shoulders. It felt like a burning sensation like you stretched your mouth to far open. I didn’t have a drug-free labor, I was on nubaine and it did nothing for my pain so it practically was drug-free anyway. My midwife used a local anesthetic to numb me which that hurt and when she started stitching it didn’t hurt until she noticed a spot that did not get numbed, but she started to stitch anyway… that hurt REALLY bad I almost punched her lol. My whole area hurt after wards and I’m sure it would have hurt regardless if I tore or not. Also it took me a good few months to feel completely normal down there.

I had a tear. My baby was big for me. (6 pounds 6 ounces.)Mine hurt a while. (I hear they heal better than an episiotomy.) You should clean it with the bottle and some warm water. Keep it clean and keep it dry. But who says you will tear?
You will hurt for almost two weeks and may even get aches and such down there if you do tear.
I had an epidural, I did not feel the tear or the stitches. Well, when it wore off, I did. It was a burning stinging pain. Not unbearable, but still.

Natural birth. Awesome. I wanted one of those, but my next three were all c-sections.
    Good luck with your baby.
    Are you having contractions yet?

i gave birth 7 weeks ago a natural delivery no drugs had severe tearing inside and out i was being stitched up for almost 3 hours. they did give me shot to numb the area but it did start to wear off a little towards the end. even to this day i still have some pain but when you look at your little baby and hold him/her in your arms i would go through it all again in a heart beat, at the time i just kept looking at my girl and she gave me the strength to do anything, You will understand when you have yours. good luck it will be fine & dont worry
