Having A Premature Baby Is Always Devastating, Who Can Share A True Story About A Premature Baby?

11 October 2009 5 Responses

A Parent asks, Having a premature baby is probably the worst thing any mother could ever wish for their unborn baby. Who can share a personal story? Maybe one with a happy ending or not? I need to know more about premature babies due to the fact that I am pregnant and have a heart problem which will most likely end my pregnancy earlier than scheduled. Thanks for your time.

well i have to say.. its not always devastating. its not what mothers wish for but is NOT the worse that could happen with their unborn baby. i had my son 4 weeks early due to my high blood pressure. he was 5 lbs 4 oz and healthy as could be. just because babies are premature does not mean they are unhealthy. yes they monitor weight gain more, growth more, etc. but there are some 5 lb babies that could come into the world healthier than a full term 9 lb baby for example. you never know. just pray for the best.
best of luck to you and baby :)

My friend had one, her daughter was born three months ahead of schedule. She was in an incubator for a really long time, and she managed to grow and get strong. The baby is now three years old and lives a pretty normal life, except since she was born early, she has a few breathing problems.

one of them was dead but they brought her back. they are 3 months now, one is doing really good. but the other one has had many surgeries, but is going to be just fine.
they weighed 2lbs at birth and our now 6lbs.

My ex and my sister’s husband were both about 3 months premature. They are both grown men now and very active, it didn’t seem to cause them any problems at all.

I had my twins at 31 weeks. My son was 3 pounds 15 oz and my daughter was 4 pounds 1 oz. They had to be on respirators, feeding tubes, etc. Their lungs were immature. It was very scary! They looked so fragile. They had to be in the NICU for 5 weeks. I am now preggo with #3. I see little babies and I don’t remember my kids being that small. They are 2 yrs old now. They haven’t had any bad effects from it Thank GOD!! You should be sure to stay off your feet as much as possible and follow your dr.’s orders. It is not fun! Do whatever you can to deliver as close to term as possible. Even though my kids are okay, I still blame myself for not staying off my feet. It will be really hard to see the baby struggle but it will definatly be worth it when/if you get to bring home your baby! Good luck..
