Step parent adoption australia?
A Parent asks, My daughter is 11 and has not seen her father for over 6 years. I am getting married next year and my daughter came to me and asked if she could change her surname to his when we marry. My ex-husband no longer pays child support, and I dont even know where he lives (or even if he is alive). I am unable to work due to an illness so my fiance financially provides for my daughter and his own two kids. My daughter loves my fiance to pieces and he was the one who suggested to me that if it were possible he would adopt her and she was over the moon about the idea. I just am wondering how likely the courts are to allow this to go through. While I am happy to try for them, my only hesitation is that his mother is worth a bit of money and by doing this my daughter will lose all rights to a possible inheritance.

If you have the opportunity to be one big family with the same surname, just go for it, it’s important for your daughter to feel that way. Regarding the heritage, just forget about it, build your daughter confidence, teach her to trust life and its abundance, life in itself it’s already a wonderful heritage, we just have to learn to get the best part of it, Believe, stay positive ….and happy…..
Good luck with everything…..
